LysOmega®, an LPC Rich Omega-3® Powered by VESIsorb® technology

LysOmega® is a proprietary omega-3 formulation developed by SourceOne Global Partners designed to increase levels of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) omega-3 essential fatty acids in the brain, retina, and other vital organs via the MFSD2A transporter.

LysOmega® combines fish oil-derived DHA and EPA with phospholipids, choline in the form of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), and the VESIsorb® delivery system technology.

SourceOne Omega-3 Innovation and Technology Platform Advances

LPC stands for lysophosphatidylcholine and is a type of phospholipid, which is a key component of cell membranes. Most notably, recent research has discovered that LPC is the preferred form of omega-3 that the MFSD2A transporter uses to accept omega-3 essential fatty acids from the plasma and deliver it to targeted key organs, such as the brain, eyes, and reproductive organs.

MFSD2A is a specialized transporter that plays an important role in moving DHA and EPA in the form of LPC-DHA and LPC-EPA across the blood-brain barrier. MFSD2A is a sodium-dependent lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) symporter that specifically recognizes the phosphocholine headgroup alongside the long hydrophobic fatty acid chain of LPC-omega-3, such as LPC-DHA, selectively transporting it across the blood-brain barrier into the brain and other high-demand organs.

“We have long understood the value of omega-3s. Emerging science now suggests that the way these essential fatty acids are delivered to key organs, including the brain, may be as important as the amount we take.” - Anthony Pretraglia, M.D.

LPC-rich omega-3® formulation uses the clinically proven VESIsorb® delivery system to support enhanced absorption and targeted DHA and EPA transport to the brain, retina, and other vital tissue.

The LysOmega® launch represents a first-to-market opportunity with an LPC-rich omega-3® formula validated for compatibility with a clinically proven drug delivery system.

Prior research suggests VESIsorb® technology will deliver higher LPC-omega-3 levels in the plasma, leading to a higher concentration of LPC-omega-3 at the MFSD2A transporter surface, which may in turn result in higher concentrations in the central nervous system (CNS).

The Science Behind LysOmega®

LysOmega® is the result of a rigorous four-year research and product development program with SourceOne’s global partners.

Rigorous product development has been completed which includes ingredient testing, formulation feasibility, formulation lab development, and validation for optimal pharmacokinetic performance (dissolution, droplet conversion, droplet size, homogeneity, polydispersity index, capsule compatibility, and initial stability protocol).

“SourceOne and its global technology partners confirmed the VESIsorb®-based formulation delivers reproducibility, homogeneity, and a smaller droplet size, resulting in a very low polydispersity index (PDI). The smaller droplet size (less than 100 nm) creates a larger surface area, improving absorption and bioavailability.” - Marc Weder, Pharmacist and Drug Delivery Expert

LysOmega® is a whole-body formulation with applications in cognitive health, longevity, eye health, reproductive health, heart health, and more.

A human clinical trial is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 with globally recognized omega-3 expert Michael Davidson, M.D., as lead researcher.‍

“The LysOmega® study is designed to generate human pharmacokinetic and biomarker data evaluating whether the formulation produces higher and more consistent circulating DHA and EPA levels, and greater CNS availability of DHA and EPA, than conventional omega-3 products.

A particular focus is APOE4 carriers, roughly one in four people, who have a well-established increase in late-onset Alzheimer’s disease risk. Prior research suggests these carriers may experience reduced delivery of DHA across the blood-brain barrier and, in some supplementation trials, a more muted cognitive response than non-carriers. This groundbreaking study will evaluate SourceOne's ability to address this unmet need with LysOmega®.” - Michael Davidson, M.D.
